Astaxanthin
Astaxanthin, extracted from Haematococcus pluvialis, a green algae, is a powerful antioxidant known as the most effective discovered so far. Its protective capacity against free radicals is 550 times higher than that of vitamin E and 6000 times more effective than vitamin C, with a preventive effect on the appearance of skin blemishes.
Astaxanthin counteracts the negative effects of photosensitivity on the skin, such as erythema, edema and inflammatory skin reactions. It works by intercepting free radicals generated by exposure to UV rays and pollution, protecting tissues and alleviating inflammatory reactions.
Several studies have highlighted the ability of astaxanthin to promote the production of collagen, simultaneously counteracting the action of the enzymes that degrade it.
